ABOUT GRAHAM WILSON

Professional Qualifications:
  • Certificate in Community and Adult Education.
  • Certificate of Qualification in Social Work [C.Q.S.W.]
  • Attendance at many Training Programmes [sponsored by the Probation Service / Home Office / Victim Support etc] over the past thirty years that have equipped Graham to deliver high quality training in the list of available programmes.

Employment History:
After a 12 year period working as a middle manager in both industry and commerce Graham spent 25 years working for the Probation Service - up to 1997- as both a practitioner and middle manager. Settings included field teams, prison service establishments, courts, residential hostels and day centres culminating in a final 7 year period as a training / staff development manager. During this time he delivered the whole range of services concerned with assessment and treatment of offenders and their offending behaviour. This was done by means of both individual and groupwork programmes. Particular areas of skill have been to focus on work with perpetrators of violent offences [including domestic abuse] and to develop / deliver programmes that take a cognitive / behavioural approach to dysfunctional behaviour. During the past 25 years, he has maintained a link with Victim Support [Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire] and has organised and delivered Training to their Staff and Volunteers and become increasingly involved in issues related to Domestic Violence from the perspective of both perpetrators and survivors. In a broader perspective, he has been involved both nationally and regionally, in the development of responses to the RIGHTS OF VICTIMS as required by the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000.

For the past 10 years Graham has worked, largely, as a freelance trainer within the field of criminal justice but has expanded his portfolio to incorporate work with academic institutions as well as statutory and voluntary organisations. His passion for justice and equality has led him into the design and development of a variety of programmes which deal with issues of equality and diversity. In addition his interest in effective practice has lead him to develop thinking in this area as demonstrated in his teaching on the management module [Youth and Community Work programme] at Ruskin College. He has also been increasingly involved in quality assurance processes / audits for Victim Support [incorporating the Witness Service].
