About Supported Learning

SUPPORTED LEARNING

THE CONCEPT:
Organisations are in business to deliver their aims and objectives.
Successful organisations achieve this to the highest standards and quality. A process of continuous Learning and Development – involving all members of the organisation in partnership – will ensure that best practice is maintained throughout.
A culture of openness, honesty and shared vision and values will enhance effectiveness

THE WORKBOOK:
A workbook is a Learning and Development tool designed to assist individuals and groups within the organisation to improve their...
  • Knowledge
  • Understanding
  • Skills
...in particular areas of practice.
The workbook takes participants through a modular programme [section by section] and is organised to provide...
  • Information
  • Exercises
  • Consideration
...which serves to develop the person/s.

A workbook is, therefore, an Action Learning device that encourages interactive and corporate development.

USING THE WORKBOOK:
There are several ways through which a Workbook will stimulate professional and personal development for the benefit of individuals and the organisation.
  1. A contract for learning is established that devises a timetable and learning pathway.
  2. Individuals may complete workbook sections and discuss with line managers during supervision. Alternatively links may be established with Coaches / Mentors as part of a career progression programme [see Effective Management Practice section].
  3. Managers may use the workbook with groups / teams to enhance corporate learning and development.
  4. Facilitators may be recruited and trained to work with teams [including managers] to enhance team development processes.
Once the workbook is completed there should be review and reflection to establish future learning needs and / or training opportunities.

SUPPORTING LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT:
The power of this approach is that it invites an open and corporate approach to organisational and individual development that helps to develop a collaborative approach to improvement of performance and quality. We, thus, improve prospects for RESPONSIVITY.
